We reported a specimen of what we believe to be a fossil shark tooth from
the Haratajino Formation (Miocene) as an unidentified species at this website
in 2000. Since then, this specimen has not yet been identified. While examining
the teeth of the present species, Pseudotriakis microdon, we noticed that the teeth of this shark were similar to that of the tooth
specimen previously collected in the Haratajino area. Therefore, we compared
the teeth of P. microdon with the specimen obtained from the Haratajino Formation. The teeth of
this species were obtained from P. microdon collected in Suruga Bay. As a result of the comparison, the specimen from
the Haratajino Formation was identified as the lower tooth of P. microdon. |
