| The specimens used in this observations were a male shark measuring 128.5 cm in length and a female shark measuring 127 cm in length. Both sharks were collected in the waters off Peninsular shima.Tooth specimens were taken from the right side jaw of both male and female sharks. | Plate 1. male, 128.5 cm t.l., upper teeth; The striae are present on both the labial and lingual faces. On the labial face, relatively long striae are sparsely present from mid to upper portion of crown. On the lingual face, thin, short, dense striae are present at the base. There is no difference in stria morphology depending on the position of the dentition. The morphology of the stria on the labial face seems to correspond to the second to third developmental stages observed in the teeth of the frilled shark. However, the teeth are less ornate and the number of striae is low. |
