C. leucas vs. C. plumbeus
Sharks of the Genus Carcharhinus
Back & Forth
Comparison of tooth morphology between C. leucas and C. plumbeus |
As part of the identification of the fossil sharks of the genus Carcharhinus, we decided to seek clues to distinguish C. leucas and C. plumbeus, which can be particularly difficult to distinguish. To this end, we compared the tooth morphology of C. leucas and C. plumbeus to determine if there were any noticeable morphological differences. |

Fig. 2. Measurement of serrations of C. leucas and C. plumbeus |
1. Measurement of serrations of C. leucas and C. plumbeus; The right upper third tooth was selected as a representative tooth from
the dentition, and the number of serrations between 3 mm wide at the center
of the distal cutting edge of the labial face was examined. The results
showed that the number of serrations between C. leucas and C. plumbeus was significantly different. 2. Mesial cutting edge; The mesial cutting edges of C. leucas and C. plumbeus are different in shape. 3. Labial face; The center of the labial face has a depression, which is more pronounced in C. leucas than in C. plumbeus. |
