Striae
Pseudocarcharias kamoharai (Matsubara, 1936)
ver.1.0
Back & Forth
The teeth of the crocodile shark Pseudocarcharias kamoharai are similar to those of Carcharias taurus, except for the lateral cusps. Weak striae are present on the teeth of C. taurus, but they are not conspicuous. In the crocodile shark, the striae are most prominent in the UR2 of the upper teeth, but even these are even thinner and weaker than in C. taurus. The best way to distinguish between the anterior teeth of the two, apart from the presence or absence of lateral cusps, would be by overall shape. C. taurus shows conspicuous sigmoidal in profile, while in the crocodile shark, the sigmoidal profile is not conspicuous. |
