Striae & Ridges
Carcharias taurus Rafinesque, 1810
ver.1.0
Back & Forth
One of our C. taurus jaw specimens was examined for the presence of striae. The results showed that striae were found on the lingual surface of the teeth in the anterior part of the jaw. These striae were judged to be in the third stage of striation development in the teeth of the frilled shark. Observation of the labial face revealed ridges at the base of the crown. These ridges were observed to be more developed in the lower part of the crown than in Odontapis ferox. |

The lower teeth of C.taurus showed the same trend as the upper teeth. |

Although still in the speculative stage, the striae on the lingual face of the present C. taurus are probably highly variable, ranging from conspicuous striae as seen in C. contortidens (Agassiz, 1843) to almost none at all. |
